Why You Should Hire A Comedian

Yesterday a former college professor of mine said in a Facebook post, “oratory is hotter than ever!” He was referencing a spoken word artist winning America’s Got Talent, the poems and poets represented at the recent Presidential inauguration, and this trend of the purely spoken word being mainstream!

There was a major comedy boom in the 1980s, and everyone dabbled in stand-up. Imagine a time when the fastest way to diversify your resume was getting together five minutes of jokes. We are not far from that now.

Comedy is SO hot right now!

If you’re wanting your business or organization to benefit from the comedy trend, consider these four reasons to hire a comedian for your next event.

  1. People Love to Laugh

Let’s start with the most obvious. People love to laugh. Even if you are organizing an event for the stuffiest of stuffy office environments your group is no exception. Comedians want to make you laugh. Comedians are funny people with prepared funny material. Funny = Laughs.

  2. Simple Entertainment Solution

Do you have a microphone? Check. Is that mic plugged into a working speaker or sound system? Check. Then you’re pretty much done. Point the comedian toward the front, and let them do their thing. The comedian will know what to do. Your audience knows what to do. So sit back, laugh, and enjoy your successful event.

  3. Shared Experience

Most events have the same sort of entertainment. DJ. Band. Slideshow. Most people categorize those events as “nice.” You want people leaving your event saying, "that was HILARIOUS.” You’re creating an event that you want to be memorable and something that people talk about and reference for months, if not years! Events like meetings, conferences, retreats, award ceremonies, etc. are great shared experiences already but hiring a comedian turns that experience into an inside joke. Literally. Good comedians are going to make the show engaging and inclusive of your group. The subject matter will be about what matters most to your organization. “Remember the time that comedian came?” “Remember the joke about water coolers!?”

  4. Extremely Customizable Entertainment

Whether you need 15 minutes filled, an hour of laughs to wrap up a weekend, or someone to run a day-long event a comedian is a great choice. Do you need extremely clean, family-friendly jokes? There’s a comedian for that. Do you need something edgier for your degenerate nursing home residents? There’s a comedian for that. You can even tee your comedian up for major success by giving him the inside scoop on some material. You can personalize the time of the set, the type of material, and some of the direction for the show!

You want your event to be funny, simple to set up, engaging, and customized for your group. Hiring a comedian checks all of those boxes. Consider hiring a comedian for your next event.
